I guess I forgot to write yesterday. Well, we made it! The boat ride was quite memorable. The boat is called a ponga and as we were boarding, the gray sky encroached and then let loose. The boat drivers gave us a giant tarp which we all held onto with all our might as the boat flew haphazardously across the waves. I was on the side and got soaked but I didn't mind. I kept trying to hold the tarp down and Dave kept pushing it up. "I have to see the horizon!" He told me.
It was late afternoon when we got to the island and Derek's brother greeted us. He told us that Derek wasn't cooking but Dave and I were so tired we didn't really care. We bought some junk food and rum and headed off to Derek's. By this time, it was dark and we would have never made it without Norm. and the flashlights. We headed off into the jungle on a muddy footpath that forked and turned.
Derek's Place is a collection of cabanas with thatched roofs on a lawn of some sort of native crab grass. Coming in at night was magical, all dark but these little houses nestled tucked into a grove of palm trees. That night we took a shower and went to bed.
Yesterday was still a recovery day. I'm not feeling great, I'm having a hard time slowing down after weeks of intensity so yesterday we mostly hung out. It rained a lot--we drank rum and read in our cabin.
There are three other couples and three single men staying here.
We finally go a good nights sleep last night so today has been fantastic. We went exploring and swimming in the ocean and ate pizza in town.
